tip into the head of the fid so that two to three inches of line are gripped
securely between the wires, as shown.
4. Pull the fid back through the core, drawing the cover with it. This may
take considerable effort, since the core’s diameter is smaller than the
diameter of the cover. But by wiggling the fid back and forth you should
be able to force the cover through. Keep pulling until the cover’s taped tip
emerges at the triple pencil mark. Detach the cover from the fid and work
the taped tip back into the core.
5. Next, the exposed portion of core will be threaded back into the cover.
