P. 5
DROUGHT is an environmental condition in which little or no rain falls
in a particular place than expected. Below are some effects of drought to both
plants, animals, and humans:
1. Soil dries out and terrestrial plants wither and die.
2. Seeds have no chance to sprout to become new plants.
3. Drying and dying of plants cause some insects and small animals
that rely on plants as food to die.
4. Other insects reproduce faster and cause an outbreak.
5. Bigger animals that eat both plants and small animals die also.
6. Drought leads to loss of crops and food supply. It also leads to
starvation, famine, malnutrition, illness, and even death to both animals and
humans.
7. Drought also affects aquatic animals and plants. Streams, ponds,
and rivers dry up. Because of this, fishes and other water animals and plants
die.
