When we are unable to listen to this core emotion and
integrate it into our actions with mindful awareness, not only
are we missing the vital information that this emotion brings
but we are also shut off from the energy that it gives us. There
is nothing passive about healthy, vibrant, nurturing,
protective compassion and care.
When we act from a place of ‘com-passion’ we are acting
‘with-passion.’ We care and our actions demonstrate this!
So why is anger so very challenging to us? Why have so many
of us, learned to fear and to suppress an emotion of such
vitality?
The origins of this will vary for each of us, but many of our
negative perceptions will have been established and
reinforced by experiences of aggression used at its worst and
at its most destructive. Combined with an inability to
recognize how to use this emotion to good effect, our
perceptions will have become established within our mind as
a solid belief.
Undoubtedly some of us will have had particularly bad
experiences of anger and aggression leaving us with such
strong negative associations that we are fearful of any form of
anger or confrontation. Even a healthy debate can feel like an
insurmountable challenge.
In this instance, we end up missing out on the opportunities
that come from vibrant discussion and debate where different
opinions expand our perceptions and fuel our growth and
learning.
