overcome the gravitational pull of everyone in
your environment because they don’t want you
to have it! I know that sounds crazy, but it is
true. It’s not that you can’t get them on board,
often you can, but you need to grow and take

them with you, not expect them to help you get
there. Some of them will accept the new you,
but many will not.

Everyone in your life has some kind of vested
unconscious desire for you to carry on as you
are, so if you want to change, no one is going to
do it for you. We all must take complete and
utter responsibility for ourselves. Expecting
others to do it for us, or even to be on board
with us, just sets us up for disappointment.

One day I was fishing on a dock off the coast
of South Carolina when I came upon an elderly
man who was trapping crabs. I watched as he
pulled the crab cage out of the water, and it
appeared that several crabs were trapped inside.

What I found interesting was the fact that there
was no lid on the trap. In ignorance, I asked the
gentleman how the crabs manage to stay in the
cage with no lid. He chuckled as my
