COACHING HIGHLIGHTS
◆ 2020 marks first season in Angels organization as Coaching Assistant/Instant Replay Coordinator,
following appointment on Nov. 6 (replacing Matt Martin)...Joins Angels following two seasons
(2018-19) as head coach at University of the Pacific...Amassed a 45-55 (.450) record during time
at UOP...Saw six of his players sign professional contracts during time as head coach...Managed
Double-A Tulsa (LAD organization) for parts of the 2016 and 2017 seasons...Returned to his alma
mater, Stanford University, in August of 2013 as an assistant coach prior to managing the Drillers .
PLAYING CAREER & MISC Garko
◆ A former third-round pick by Indians in 2003, went on to play six years (2005-10) in Majors with
Indians, Giants and Rangers...Made big league debut with Cleveland Sept. 18, 2005 against the
Royals...Enjoyed finest season of career in 2007, batting .289 (140/484) with 21 home runs and
61 RBI to accompany an .842 OPS in 138 games for Indians...Appeared in nine games during 2007
postseason...Hit .364 (4/11) with a home run and three RBI in Indians’ defeat of Yankees during
ALDS...Went 7-for-24 (.292) in six games of ALCS vs. Boston...Cleveland would fall in Game 7 in
Boston...Also saw action in Korean Baseball Organization during 2011 campaign where he would
help the Samsung Lions win the KBO Championship...Returned to the States and played 2012
season with the Independent League Long Island Ducks before signing with Tampa Bay...After
completing 2012 campaign with Double-A Montgomery, was invited to Spring Training in 2013
by Rockies...Following the spring, turned his attention to the coaching ranks...Prepped at Servite
High School (less than 10 miles from Angel Stadium) before attending Stanford University...During
his time playing for the Cardinal, was named 2003 Co-Pac 10 Player of the Year, 2003 Biff Hoffman
Award honoree and the 2003 Johnny Bench Award, given to the top catcher in the college ranks.
