Brian Patterson and his staff at the
Burlington, NC Putt-Putt Golf and
Games expected lots of players,
excitement, and busy times during the
week of June 2 - 6. However, they may
not have been expecting two world
records, two first time major winners
and unanimous heartfelt appreciation
from the players for the effort to make the event seem like an effortless
accomplishment. This will also probably be Brian Patterson’s last time
he will host a PPA major event. He will soon retire and pass the
responsibility of operating the beautiful Burlington course to very
capable hands. Thank you, Mr. Patterson for the dedication and
cooperation extended to the PPA / APA tour events.
The National Invitational would officially start on June 5, but - to give
players a chance to practice under competitive conditions, the
Southern Putting Tour held two events prior to the major event of the
weekend. One of these
events gave Randy Reeves the
opportunity to provide a
world record breaking
performance of scoring a 62
for 54 holes. This means that
Reeves missed eight holes
during the 54-hole event. He

also set the world record for
the most aces (hole-in-ones) in a row – 25. The previous record for the
lowest 54-hole score was by Daryl Freeman, shooting a 63. The most
