hole on a

               consistent basis.

               Was it the carpet
               or the stress of

               the event?

               Probably both.
               At the end of

               round 6, Phillips
               maintained his

               lead despite Terry Phillips

               shooting a 31.
Greg Newport started the day 8-strokes back and was slowly working

his way to the top with opening rounds of 25 and 27. His next round

                                                          rd
was a 23, which pushed him to 3 place, but he only gained one stroke
on Rutledge who shot a 24 and regained the lead. Phillips steadied

himself with a round of 27 and was now trailing by one shot. Jim Engel

did not seem bothered by the slow carpets. Starting the day 6 strokes
               back, he scored rounds

               of 23, 29 and 25 – now Jim Engel

               tied with Newport. Both
               players trailing Rutledge

               by 2 slim strokes with
               one round remaining.

               Although the average

               scores remained about
               the same, the course

               changed as the day
progressed. Phillips and Rutledge would shoot 30s. Engel and Newport

would shoot 28s. Engel and Phillips would each have a total score of

210, one stroke behind Rutledge and Newport. Excitingly, Rutledge was
