Footwear:
                  •  Rangers are required to wear appropriate footwear at all times;

                  • Leather boots with full ankle support are strongly recommended. Rangers must comply
                     with the City of Boulder’s current footwear policy. Cross-trainers and trail-runner type
                     shoes are allowed;
                  •  All footwear must be a neutral color other than white, such as black, brown, tan, or gray;
                  •  All footwear must have rounded toes, low heels, and be clean and free of excessive wear;
                     and
                  • Socks, when visible, should be crew-length or longer and clearly visible above the shoe-
                     line.

              Hats, Caps, Sunglasses, and Retaining Straps:
                  • Hats, glasses, and any other non-department accessory items must not detract from the
                     uniform’s overall appearance;
                  •  Department-issued caps may be worn with uniforms; other caps are prohibited;
                  •  Knit or winter caps must be a neutral color;
                  • Sunglasses may be worn with uniforms. Sunglasses that are dark enough to make it
                     difficult or impossible to see rangers’ eyes should not be worn in visitor contact situations
                     except when absolutely necessary, e.g., when prescribed by a doctor for light sensitivity;
                  • Sunglass rims and retaining straps must be a conservative color, such as gray, black, or
                     brown; bright or neon colors are prohibited; and
                  • Glasses on straps must hang so neither the strap nor the glasses obscure the badge or
                     name bar.

              Personal Appearance Standards

              Rangers must recognize that the public will often judge the OSMP Department’s effectiveness
              based on first impressions. Rangers who are inattentive to their personal appearance reflect an
              unfavorable image not only of themselves, but also the entire department. Rangers are expected
              to maintain a neat, clean, well-groomed, professional appearance and to comply with the
              following general guidelines:

                  • Beards will be neatly trimmed, combed, clean, and free of ornaments; mustaches must be
                     neatly trimmed. Beards must not interfere with regularly assigned duties nor be a safety
                     hazard when performing duties;
                  • Hair must be clean and neat, and hair length must not interfere with regularly assigned
                     duties and/or be a safety hazard while performing those duties. Hair must not obscure the
                     badge or the name bar. Haircuts or hairstyles that draw more attention than the uniform
                     and detract from a ranger’s authority, such as cuts with patterns or designs, are
                     prohibited;
                  • Coloration not normally found in human hair and/or any coloration that produces unnatural
                     hair patterns through contrasting hair colors is prohibited;
