respect with the school Principal; this enabled her to influence
various decisions that benefitted her Tamil medium students,
though it raised some jealousy in some Tamil teachers!
Her leadership and proactive interaction with the parents also
stood out. She formed various parent groups for the benefit of
the students and the school. Through these groups and
interactions, she got to know some of the hardships some
students experienced in their home environment and tailored the
homework accordingly for these students. She also raised funds
for various school projects including organising cultural events.
In retirement in Sydney
In retirement, Miss remained as active as she was at school,
taking on many roles in the community, at the senior citizens
groups including participating and winning many scrabble
competitions! While the Mylvaganam’ s had a comfortable
lifestyle, in SriLanka, they, adapted very well to their adopted
Country and the new environment and made numerous new friends.
Apart from enjoying the hospitality, during my visits, I enjoyed
listening to the various arguments the old couple had during the
week which they shared with me and enjoyed chatting and
listening about the old days including the politics at Royal Primary
and the Community in Sydney.
Thank you for everything Miss, may your soul rest in peace.
