the songs. Most dinner parties at the Mylvaganams home
ended with a sing song. Essentially, not just dinner
parties but any occasion was good enough for a sing song,
and it was always a “family affair” with everyone taking
part with only Uncle being a “passive participant”. But
he too enjoyed every bit of it, listening with a twinkle in
his eye and a glass of whisky in his hand.
As time went on, we were also blessed with our two
daughters Ruwani and Dharini and for them too Aunty
was a very special person. They were ever eager to visit
“the Myls” - as they would say - at any time of the day.
Aunty had this wonderful ability to make everyone, from
the youngest to the oldest feel at home. Aunty was not
just a good time friend. Whenever we were faced with
some problem or issue both Aunty and Uncle were
always there not just to guide us but to lend a hand if and
when required. Aunty in turn shared many thoughts
with us which may have sometimes troubled her. We
were blessed and fortunate to have her in our lives
especially in those crucial times of our life.
After Aunty and Uncle moved to Sydney and we were
sailing, every time the ship docked in Sydney, we looked
forwarded to visiting Aunty and Uncle in Strathfield.
We were welcomed warmly, and it was so refreshing to
spend quality time with them. Aunty Myl was not just a
role model. She was also an inspirational lady. We were
so very fortunate to have her in our lives. The one regret
we have is that we could not spend more time with her in
her later years and due to the prevailing COVID-19 issues
in Melbourne we were not able to be there to pay our last
respects to her. Aunty Myl you were very dear to us and
much loved. While we rejoice in the rich and exemplary
life you led, we miss you dearly and thank you from the
bottom of our hearts for all what you had been to us.
