Letter from Dr. Karunyan Arulanantham,
Lancaster, California
Dear Jano,
Thank you for sharing the link for Acca’s farewell ceremony. It was
a meaningful ceremony and it is good that I was able to pay my
respect to her.
The Eulogies by the three of you captured her personality and
contributions well. I thought I recognized your and Vasuki’s voices
in the singing.
While her humor, cheerfulness, her intellectual pursuits were
mentioned and do stand out, I am grateful for being one of the
beneficiaries of her caring ways. She was always warm and kind to
me and would make sure that I had plenty of tasty food and that all
my needs (including tea at the proper time brought to me by her
children) were taken care of. Mylvaganam Uncle (as I would call
your father) was also very good to me and was always helpful.
They made me a part of their family and I will always cherish those
days at your parents’ home. We are grateful for Acca’s life and
contributions.
The words of Rabindranath Tagore gives a perspective in times like
these:
“Say not in grief, that he is no more,
But say in thankfulness that he was.
A death is not the extinguishing of a light,
But the putting out of the lamp because the dawn has come”
