POST IMPRESSIONISM
Artists like Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Gaughin and
Paul Cezanne were Post Impressionist painters.
The word “post” comes from Latin and means
“after” or “coming after”. Two of the best-known
South African Post Impressionists are Pieter
Wenning and Gregoir Boonzaaier.
These artists focused on expressing their
experiences of life, combining their imaginations
with what they saw in the real world. They did
not paint realistically, instead they chose to
distort and simplify their subject matter.
