Your final advert must be A3 (equivalent) in size or 30 second long advert. You have four weeks,
including this one, to complete this task:
1) Complete your brainstorming and planning in the block below to develop your idea. What is the
public comment that you wish to make through your advert? ............................................................
.............................................................................................................................................................
.............................................................................................................................................................
2) When you have finalised your comment and concept you need to spend some time working out
how you will get the message across clearly and quickly. Designers have 4 seconds to
communicate with the consumer, viewer or user and then the opportunity will pass. You need to
manipulate the elements of art and the principles of design carefully.
3) You will be working as an individual. For this task, you are allowed to use any medium or technique
to complete the brief. Some media include animation, photography, painting, papier collé, drawing,
video, collage, and CAD.
4) Look at the objects or images you wish to include in your advert carefully –analyse them carefully,
begin to understand how to create meaning through manipulating their placement, scale or
emphasis. Arrange these objects to form an interesting composition that no one else will dare think
of! Arrange them so that the composition creates meaning. Remember that you may change the
objects, add something to them, break them (get permission!!!), join them- remember how you
process your objects will communicate meaning for the viewer.
5) You may choose to include an odd number of objects as this makes a 2D design more visually
interesting. Choose original objects or choose everyday “normal” objects and do something
interesting to them in order to create meaning! Remember to consider their meaning and
associations.
6) Choose the context where the objects will be placed. The context you choose will also create
meaning. You may need to use reference material if the context is not found in your immediately
environment. Your reference material could be photographs, magazine and newspaper images or
those printed off the internet or choose a site to shoot the advert.
7) Your advert will be marked out of 20 marks.
