Break in Service Grace Periods
If you have a leave of absence, you may be eligible for a break in
service grace period, depending on the type of leave you take.
Maternity/Paternity Leave
Effective October 1, 1986, if you are absent due to maternity or
paternity reasons, you will be credited with hours of service if
they are necessary to prevent a break in service for that year.
Otherwise, those hours will be credited the following year in order
to prevent a break in service.
Hours of service will be credited for maternity/paternity leave for
 Your pregnancy,
 The birth of your child,
The placement of a child with you due to adoption, or
Care of your child immediately after birth or adoption.
No more than 501 hours will be credited for any 1 absence, and
will be applied only to prevent a break in service. These hours will
not add to your credited service.
