My impulsive response caused George to choke on his drink but he waved me to continue.

‘Firstly, his account of being rejected by his mother. He said she repulsed him. He believed he had
been conceived simply to bolster her cover and yet he still keeps her photograph in his pocket.

Secondly, If it was true that he only complied with the Russians to get back to America, then why
didn’t he tell the CIA what had happened, they could have used him to disseminate false
            information.

Thirdly, when he left Boston to set himself up as Mick Hagley, why did he bring his accounts book
with him? I believe it was because his loyalty is to Russia and I think they know exactly where he is
and fourthly, he came to London to give Hagley’s handler, my wife, the copy of the Guatemala
            memo.

He says it was to prove he was totally loyal to America and the West. The truth is he flew to London

via Moscow. I believe he went there to see his mother who is now his controller and she could see
that if he could prove his loyalty to the west he could be an even bigger asset. The memo he gave
Anne was probably written in Moscow but whatever it says it will be meaningless.’

‘And that, my dear Bryant, is why it is imperative that you find it.’

‘There is one other thing. I said that Anne had received sent intercepts from GCHQ; the fact is what
those intercepts stated about attempted blackmail was true but the intercepts were in fact fake.

They had been planted on Anne.’

‘Any idea how or by whom?’

‘My initial thought was that Albert was involved but the fakes were not perfect, Albert’s fakes
would be. I think they came from within the Big House. Whoever planted those fakes started a

chain of events that led to four deaths including Anne.’
