In the left middle drawer lay an accounts summary book. The accounts were a mix of individual
names and companies from around the world together with their bank numbers. Hagley was

satisfied his initial hunch had turned out to be true; Warner was a paymaster for either the Mafia or
Langley but his gambling habit made it more likely to be Langley.

Payments into these accounts were listed in chronological order and against some, in pencil, were
written amounts, smallish amounts in comparison to the amount paid in, but again a quick addition
left Hagley in no doubt that these amounts added up to Warner’s paid off debts. Further scrutiny
showed a rubbing out of pencilled amounts and corrections made to some of the paid out amounts.
Not only was Warner borrowing money, he was robbing Peter to Pay Paul to hide his fraud. Worse,

he was clearly double-crossing his CIA employer.

The latest entry in the volume was a company called ‘London Property Invest’. Hagley let out a long
low whistle. Warner had received nearly six and a half million dollars and all of it had immediately
been transferred to a bank he had never heard of in Mayfair, London.

This had been a golden opportunity for Warner to get himself financially straightened but he hadn’t
touched a penny and Hagley wondered why.

There was also a name, Edward Alladyce and a telephone number pencilled in and Hagley
wondered if this was the recipient of the “threatening calls”.

He thought about the blackmail. An MI6 section had commissioned him to find Warner and so it

was reasonable to suspect London Property Invest and this Edward Alladyce were MI6 also. It
appears the CIA is funding MI6 for an operation. What the operation is does not really matter, it is
the fact they are funding it to the tune of six million dollars, so far, that would be the basis of the
blackmail and a pretty good basis too. The British would be happy to pay out to stop that getting
            into the public domain.

He sat in the Captain’s Chair and put his feet up on the desk, he had a lot of hard thinking to do.

Eventually he made up his mind. The first thing he had to do was get a signal off to his contact in
London. He took a small notebook from his wallet and began to write.
