Convent and St. Johns Primary I had to affirm for
myself the faith which I had been baptized into with
the intention of living a committed life to the church
(not Christ)
Thinking back on my life there was no significance
except that when I made the public profession at
my confirmation that I was now admitted to all the
rights and privileges of Church membership. Today
many are making public professions
(Confirmations) in church for various reasons such
as being added to the membership roll, to become
eligible to vote in church meetings, to be elected to
offices such as the eldership and have someone to
marry or bury them.
Globally at every Sunday worship service people
are making a “profession of faith”. In certain
churches formal membership is very important to
maintain order and exercise church discipline for
correcting and punishing sin.
