Scoti Miles – MRI
With the countless number of potential safety hazards that lie outside the doors of the MRI rooms, the
MRI technologist is the last bastion of safety for all those who may enter. On two instances, this past
month of March, Scoti’s diligence and fervent will to stand her ground prevented dire safety events
from occurring in the MRI suite.
In the first instance, Scoti did not waiver in her insistence as a persistent anesthesia team member
attempted to enter the MRI Room with an anesthesia cart that was not MRI safe. It wasn’t until it was
demonstrated to the anesthesia team member that the cart was magnetic that the individual
appreciated the gravity of the situation.
In the second instance, Scoti diligently inspected a patient’s history after the ordering provider
insisted that a patient no longer had a pacemaker and thus it was safe for the patient to have the
exam. Scoti’s detective work found that the patient had a retained pacemaker lead that, if scanned,
could have had a dramatically negative impact on the health of the patient.
Thank you Scoti, for not only protecting our patients, but also protecting everyone around you from
these potentially sentinel events. You are a Superstar!
