For June we had no club night but instead we had a club Sunday
afternoon at Ian & Karen Swan’s. Again it was a nice sunny day.
June also saw our usual Koi and dry goods auction at the barn
near Petersfield.
England reaching the world cup semi-finals forced us to cancel
the July club night at short notice. Luckily the guest speaker was
happy to reschedule to a later date. During July we had our first
club trip for ages, a visit to the West Wales Koi Keepers, one of
the best trips we have ever had.
August saw another club Sunday afternoon instead of a club
night, this time it was held at Arnie & Mavis Piddington’s. It did
rain at heavily at first but then the rain held off so we were lucky!
We also had the return for the 2017 -18 Kohaku challenge in
August, this was held at Geoff & Mary Gallimore’s. Mick & Janet
Tombs won the prestigious SHKC Grand Champion award.
For the September club night we held an Open Forum. Although
these have been popular in the past, on this night only 13
member’s turned up, a record low attendance. A few days later
we had an informal Koi and dry goods auction at an ex-members
pond in Hayling Island. All proceeds were generously donated
to SHKC funds. Even I brought a couple of fish!
The October club night saw Craig Emery of Akahana Koi pro-
vide us with a presentation on professional pond builds. The
main pond shown to us was in Colchester and the owner has
said that SHKC would be welcome to visit. We are therefore
considering a trip to this location for 2019 .
For the November Club night we had our Photographic Compe-
tition. Over 50 Koi were entered, there were 9 category awards
and the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion
