For over 60 years, Janicki Logging and Construc on (JLC) has
shared their passion and values for natural resources with
future genera ons in the Puget Sound area. JLC’s fi rsthand
knowledge provides an abundance of experience and a guiding
hand for land owners and tree farming. First hand forest
management impacts future genera ons, and the choices made
today impact the forests for decades to come. Local climate
change and its aff ect on tree farms and forest ecology can be
managed proac vely with proper forest management solu ons.
Whether it’s 10-acres, 100-acres, or 1,000-acres of forestland,
tree farms are more than businesses. They are also living,
breathing ecosystems. And with proper care, forest
management and ecology can go together hand-in-hand,

forestry and logging services that mirror the natural cycles of
forests. When it comes to forests, bigger is be er. The health
of a forest is JLC’s number one goal and works well with long-
term management plans. When trees are harvested selec vely
through “thinning,” there is more room for trees to grow. The
bigger the trees, the bigger the sale. Trees removed during
thinning allow the dominate trees to grow at an accelerated
rate and also generate revenue for a forest owner.
The process of opening the forest canopy with selec ve
logging takes advantage of current mber prices while building
a harvest for later. The open canopy allows more sun for the
forest fl oor. More sun on the forest fl oor means more plants,
more wildlife, and less fi re risks. More biodiversity then leads
to healthier, more valuable trees. Sustainable thinning allows

a harvest of mber every year, without diminishing the overall
volume of mber, or land value. This builds a steady revenue
stream for the landowner and can be adjusted to what is best
for the land.
Land that has been poorly managed previously, may need
to be started fresh. Some mes it turns out that much of
the forest is overly dense or in poor health and it may be
necessary to clearcut and start the forest process over. This
decision demands JLC take many appropriate eff orts to make it
environmentally safe and healthy. JLC can replant an owner’s
preferred species of tree, spacing them so they will grow well.
Replan ng is an important part of logging in Washington State
and JLC does their part to help keep nature thriving. For every
one tree removed by JLC, the company replants ten.
