4.1 Utilities Installation - Enabling Works

4.1.1 Electrical Services - Best Practice Guidance
Where the electric meter is to be located
internally, the following preparatory works will
be required:
• Install 50mm entry ducting with sufficient
radius to allow cable installation to below
internal meter position to exit building at
minimum 450mm below the outside surface
level
• Install fireproof back board (sizes are
approximately 2000mm high x 1000mm
wide) and to be sited between 500mm and
2000mm above finished floor level
• All internal cabling and meter tails to be
installed by a qualified electrician ready for
connection to the meter
• Black ducting must be used for all electrical
services.

On site excavation
For stores with a private forecourt or private
land within its boundary, on site excavation and
reinstatement will be your responsibility (unless
otherwise specified).

Best practice on site excavation
• Install minimum 125mm plastic rigi duct
from the store to the boundary edge (this
changes in colour dependent upon area so
please refer to the quote and utility drawing)
• Duct must be fitted with a draw cord
• To be laid approximately 600mm deep
(specification will be in quote)
• Overlay duct with caution warning marker
tape
