out from Non-Officer Nam-Dinh Military school; he was Non-
commissioned Officer of the 10th. Mobile Battalion and belong
to 23rd Army Division. His name was Tinh, Nguyen-Trong..."
Nguyen's grandpa opened wide his eyes in surprise and
interrupted.
"Your husband had changed his name."
"Yes...Father! It is very dangerous for him if he keeps his
old name."
Nguyen's mother replied and continued:
"After I gave their commander all information about my
husband. He gave me back my husband portrait and signed a
certificate for releasing me..."
Nguyen's mother stopped and ran toward her bedroom. She
took off a paper and portrait that she hid in her underwears. She
gave them to her father in law after walked out of the room and
continued:
"I did not know what he wrote on this certificate, but I felt it
was safety key for me, so I kept them under my clothes after he
let me free."
Nguyen's grandpa took a certificate. He opened and closed it
to his eyes in the dark. He shook his head and gave it back to
Nguyen's mother.
"I could not see any words, too dark! You must be careful
with it because if Viet Minh knows you had this certificate. It
will become a death-key for you!"
"I knew that since I want Nguyen to go with me tonight."
