The people under their rules had nothing more than the
painful suffering to choose and die with the hating and sorrow
that they could hurt their enemies.
Nguyen remembers his grandma had said:
“Do not hate anybody else even your enemy, because it will
effect on your life with the sorrow, also do not let the people
hate you, because you will carry the painful suffering. The best
way to keep peace in your soul is to forgive and forget.”
Nguyen asked his grandma:
“Did you forgive and forget communist and French
colonials? They killed the people and uncle Hung.”
Nguyen’s grandma had sighed with her moist eyes and said:
“I tried to do it. We could not take blood to clean the blood.
Do you know that?”
“Yes, grandma.”
In the loving voice, Nguyen reapplied, while he looked at
his grandma's face. He knew she carried the sorrow and pain in
the deep of her soul that her eyes were a mirror.
One weekend afternoon, Nguyen had news about her that
she passed away. Few relatives and the neighbors buried her on
a side with her spouse without her children and grandchild. The
village was only thirty kilometers from Hanoi Capital, but by the
war, it seemed very far away, and Nguyen cried all the weekend
in his bedroom.
