November 20, 1953. General Navarre begins to carry his
strategy Dien-Bien-Phu, where are the West of North Vietnam
high land and 15 kilometers closing Lao border. Dien-Bien-Phu
valley is about 9 kilometers wide, and 10 kilometers long and
few small villages of Tai people were in the valley. Surrounding
the valley was mountains, thick jungle with wild animals, and
most the time it has fog and raining forest. Dien-Bien-Phu
connected Hanoi by the High way 41 only, and four kilometers
away from Tuan-Giao, which was linkup into Muong-Khoua
city of North Laos. Also, It connected High way 4 to Lai-Chau
and Lao-Cai city of Vietnam at South China border, where
closed the Red River that runs down into Hanoi. Vietminh used
this river to move their troops from China border cities into
Vietnam then spreading out on over the North river deltas.
Vietminh troops controlled the countryside in the North nearby
the South China border by link up with the China troops,
occupied some villages on the Red River delta and set up the
main base supplies. They threatened the most river delta
countryside by the terrorism at midnight, destroyed the high
ways 1, 1A, 2, 3, and 6, to cut the communication of the
French fire bases with Hanoi.
French troops held the rest countryside in the confusion of
their enemy with the farmers, and strong hole the cities. Seemed
French troops controlled these territories at daytime by the
colony dead rules until the sun going down, then they let the
people for the cruel communist rim.
French militarist almost transported soldiers, supplies,
equipment warfare to the firebases by opening the operations or
airlifts for security. However, Vietminh used the ambush to
attack the conveyors, took the supplies warfare and closed some
firebases.
