Chapter 3: The Miracle of Seeds and the Emerging
Seedlings
Where the Miracle Begins!
Here is where the wonderment pops out!
Kids enjoy planting seeds, watching them sprout, and eventually producing
food they can harvest.
Many companies give out free seed catalogues which are great fun to look
through.
Seeds of Diversity has a whole listing of seed catalogues at:

NOTE: Before you get carried away by all the marvelous items to choose
from remember you want to keep it small to begin with. Make yourself a list
of what you like to eat or what you might buy at a farmers’ market. Also
consider some edible flowers which make a beautiful addition to the
garden.
To help you with your selection I’ve put down some edible flowers and their
uses, some quick and easy to grow snacking plants plus some fun plants to
grow that you can play in.
Edible Flowers See which ones appeal to your child. What are
their favorite colors?
1. Nasturtium and marigold petals with their bright orange
colors and spicy flavor are lovely in salads.
2. Borage adds a nice cucumber flavor to salads.
3. Violets and pansies are delicious when lightly sugared. Use
them to garnish cupcakes or cookies. Also they make for
delightful ice cubes along with the borage flower.
