Home Made Dish Washing –
Budget and Environmentally Friendly
In our efforts to be more sustainable while looking after the back pocket my research has
bought me across two "fantastic" recipes (be prepared for some home truths). Both of th
ese Dish Washing solutions use far less chemicals and packaging. Saving the environme
nt, reducing waste and saving money what more could you want. Check out my Lemon
Dish Washing Tablets and Orange Dish Washing Liquid..
Orange Dish
Washing Liquid
Ingredients
• 1/4 cup soap flakes
• 2 cups hot water (not boiling)
• 1/4 cup glycerine
• 10 – 15 drops lemon or orange essential oil
Method
1. In a jug mix the soap flakes and the hot water together
and stir until the soap flakes have dissolved.
2. Cool until tepid, then add the glycerine and the
essential oil.
3. As it cools down this mixture will form into a gel –
if this happens use a fork to stir and break it up a little.
4. Using a funnel pour into an old shampoo bottle or an
old dishwashing liquid bottle and just squirt into a sink of
hot water to wash your dishes!
Hints and Tips
This is liquid to use in the sink for hand washing dishes.
Not for use in a dishwasher. Again make sure your hot
wate is hot hot hot (I’m now boiling the kettle).
You don’t have to pour with a funnel however it will be
less messy. With or without I would suggest pouring over
the sink as the globs tend to make it a messy job.
Thankfully it’s clean mess.
Just one little thing I have noticed since changing over to
this liquid, while I love the way it cleans and I love the
way it feels on my skin be warned it is not frothy like you
are used to with commercial cleaners!!! This is due to the
fact that there are no foaming agents added to the liquid.
This does not change the ability to clean however.
