Leopards are territorial animals and will fight to protect their territory. They will mark their territory
with urine and droppings but also with claw marks on trees.
Leopards communicate with meows, purrs, snarls and growls. The cubs will call their mother with an
ur-ur sound. They also have white spots on their ears and tails which the cubs can see and follow so
they don’t get lost in tall grass.

Leopards are carnivores and prefer medium size prey. They can hunt bigger prey in the absence of
lions or tigers. They prefer prey in small herds and in dense areas. If they can’t consume their prey
immediately they will pull the prey up a tree with the head hanging down. Mothers will hunt smaller
prey. The higher the available prey the greater the leopard population and the smaller the territory.
