Lions are bred in captivity for canned hunting. Hundreds of lions are slaughtered every year for the
bone trade. Every year 1200 lion skeletons are transported abroad. Lion bones are substituted for
tiger bones. Lion bones are used for fake aphrodisiacs and traditional medicines. The bones are also
used to make tiger bone wine which is very popular among wealthy consumers in China and
Vietnam. The products made from lion bone are wrongfully promoted as a cure for arthritis,
rheumatism and as sex enhancers. Lion body parts are used for traditional medicines. Hunters can
               pay as much as
               $20 000 to kill a canned lion.
