The elusive black leopard also known as a black panther and can be found in the equatorial
rainforests of Malaya, on the tropic African rainforest mountain slopes, Indonesian island of Java,
dense forests in southwest China, Assam, Nepal, Myanmar, southern India and Cameroon.
The black leopard gets his colour from a condition called Melanism. Melanism is the development of
dark-coloured pigment in the skin by a rare recessive gene. The leopard spots are still present under
the black colour.
