Th clouded leopard is also known as the Mint leopard in China because the coat resembles the
leaves of a mint tree. The clouded leopard is characterized by a greyish fur with cloud-shaped spots
surrounded by black. They have black ears and black lines running from the eye corner to the cheek,
from the mouth to the neck and along the nape to the shoulders. The underparts and legs are
spotted. They have long strong tails with powerful stout legs. Their tails help with balance and to
keep them in the trees. The strong, flexible ankles and big paws help them to climb down trees head
first and climb trees while they are upside down. Their ankles can flex backwards. They are a
medium sized cat and are considered as the best climbers in the feline group. They can jump 1,2m
high.
