The snow leopard is also known as an ounce. They are large cats that can be seen in mountain
ranges of central and South Asia with altitude between 3000 and 4500 metres. China has almost 60%
of all snow leopards. They are considered endangered.
Snow leopards have short bodies with long tails. The long thick furry tail helps them to keep their
balance and is used to protect them from the cold. They have big paws to help them move around
easier on snow and rocky terrain. They have long thick fur and fur on their bellies and small ears to
help with keeping heat. They have small open spots on their bodies with bigger spots and their legs
and tails. They have pale green or gray eyes. They can reach speeds of 60km/hr and can jump as far
as 15 metres.
