               CALMED ONLY 8 PLAYERS ACTUALLY BROKE PAR DESPITE THE FORMAT AND
               IT BEING THE MIDDLE OF JUNE.   PHILLIP HODGSON’S ONE OVER PAR GROSS
               OFF A 2 HANDICAP WAS CREDITABLE BUT ONLY GAINED FIFTH PLACE.  JAMES
               HUDSON PRODUCED A SIMILAR 37 POINTS FOR FOURTH PLACE WITH DAVID
               BELL GOING ONE BETTER FOR THIRD.  UNABLE TO FIND ANY REASON TO
               DISQUALIFY THE WINNER  YOUR SECRETARY/MANAGER
                HAD TO SETTLE FOR SECOND PLACE WITH HIS 38 POINTS.  IN ACTUAL FACT
               THE WINNER WAS SO FAR AHEAD OF THE REST OF THE PLAYERS THAT A DOPE
               TEST WAS EVEN CONSIDERED.   ON A 9 UNDER SCORE OF 45 POINTS THE
               ROEDA WILL DESERVEDLY REST WITH THIS YEARS WINNER, ALEX EWART.
               SENDS HIS APOLOGIES.

               JEWELL TROPHY   SMALL TROPHY BUT A LARGE FIELD PREPARED TO COME
               OUT ON A FINE DAY IN JUNE TO CONTEST THIS MEDAL COMPETITION.   EIGHTY
               BIRDIES HELPED SEVERAL PLAYERS ON THEIR WAY ALTHOUGH OVERALL
               SCORING WAS QUITE MUTED.   WITH 6 D/Qs AND 30 N/Rs THIS STILL LEFT A50
               PLAYERS IN WITH A CHANCE AND HARVEY SIMS BEGAN A RUN OF GOOD
               SCORES WITH A NET 69 FOR SIXTH PLACE.   A NET 68 BY SIX HANDICAPPER
               MARK WILLCOX GAINED FIFTH PLACE AND WAS MATCHED IN FOURTH BY
               JAY LAUNDON.   A ONE UNDER PAR GROSS 71 FOR A NET 67 GAVE THIRD
               PLACE TO JOSH SMEED WHILST PHIL ANDREWS MADE HIS SIX UNDER 66
               GOOD ENOUGH FOR SECOND.   HOWEVER, A NET 65 MEANS THAT FOR THE A
               NEW NAME WILL APPEAR ON THE HONOURS BOARD, UNDER THE JEWELL
               TROPHY IT WILL NOW READ ROBIN THOMPSON.

               CHARITY SHIELD    FOR MOST OF US A SATURDAY IN EARLY JULY PROMISES A
               DAY OF GOLF FOLLOWED POSSIBLY BY A DRINK AND A BITE IN THE CLUB
               HOUSE AFTER OUR ROUND.   FOR THE CAPATIN IT IS INSTEAD A LONG DAY OF
               MEET AND GREET AND DISPENSING FOOD AND DRINKS TO A HUNGRY,
               THIRSTY BUT GRATEFUL GROUP OF PLAYERS.  WITH A HEAVILY LADEN PRIZE
               TABLE AS AN INCENTIVE THIS STABLEFORD COMPETTIION HAD JUST UNDER
               160 PLAYERS COMPETING.  STEPHEN D GILL WON DIVISION 3 WITH 41 POINTS
               WITH CLUB PRESIDENT GEOFF WITTE SECOND WITH 37 POINTS.  DIVISION 2
               SAW TWO SCORES OF 41 POINTS FIGHTING FOR TOP SPOT AS KEN YOUNG HAD
               TO SETTLE FOR SECOND PLACE BEHIND RICH MANCHIP.   DIVISION 1 SAW
               THREE SCORES OF 39 POINTS AND AFTER COUNT BACK RESULTED IN SIMON
               DENNIS PLACING THIRD, JASON POPE SECOND AND DAVID LIGHT TAKING
               THE BEST PRIZE.  THE OVERALL BEST SCORE AND THE HOLDER OF THE 2017
               CHARITY SHIELD WITH AN EXCELLENT 42 POINTS IS A PLAYER WHO IS
               CURRENTLY ON HOLIDAY HAVING FAILED TO PERSUADE HIS WIFE THAT THE
               PRIZE GIVING WAS MORTE IMPORTANT.  THAT PLAYER IS PETER LAWRENCE
               WHO SEND HIS APOLOGIES.
