HARGREAVES TROPHY THE HARGREAVES TROPHY IS VERY MUCH FOR THE
PURISTS AS IT IS A KNOCKOUT PLAYED OFF SCRATCH. AS SUCH IT ONLY
TENDS TO ATTRACT PLAYERS WITH SINGLE FIGURE HANDICAPS AND A
DEGREE OF ASPIRATION. THIS YEAR 13 PLAYERS ENETRED WHICH IS
SLIGHTLY ABOVE AVERAGE. A COUPLE OF THE EARLY FAVOURITES WHO
HAD DONE WELL IN THE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP FAILED TO MAKE IT PAST THE
QUARTER FINALS. THIS SET UP TWO SEMI FINALS BETWEEN A FIVE AND A
TWO HANDICAPPER ON BOTH SIDES OF THE DRAW. SIMON DENNIS LOST HIS
MATCH WHILST THE EVER BUSY PHILLIP HODGSON GAVE HIS MATCH TO HIS
OPPPONENT. THIS SET UP A FINAL WITH A BIT OF A TWIST AS JAMIE
TURNBULL HAD ENTERED INTO A BET WITH JAMES HAWLEY THAT HE
WOULD WIN AT LEAST ONE TROPHY THIS YEAR. AS OF LAST WEEK HE WAS
STILL ONE TROPHY SHORT BUT HOPED THAT THE HARGREAVES WOULD WIN
HIM A POT AND THE £50 BET. UNFORTUNATELY FOR JAMIE IT WAS NOT TO BE
AND INSTEAD HIS OOPPONENT WALKED AWAY WITH THE TROPHY AND A
CONSOLATION £50. THE WINNER THIS YEAR JAMES HAWLEY. APOLOGIES.

TOWLER MIXED FOURSOMES A MIXTURE OF COUPLES SIGNED UP FOR THE
TOWLER CUP WHICH IS PLAYED AS A MIXED FOURSOMES. FOR SOME IT WAS
A HUSBAND AND WIFE, FOR OTHERS BROTHER AND SISTER AND FINALLY FOR
UNATTACHED MALE AND FEMALE PLAYERS. WITH SUCH A TOUGH FORMAT
THE ODD DOMESTIC MIGHT BE EXPECTED BUT REPORTS ARE THAT THE
LOSING PAIRS TOOK IT ALL IN GOOD SPIRIT AND NO DIVORCES ARE IMMINENT
FOLLOWING A POOR DRIVE OR MISSED PUTT. RICHARD WREN AND SISTER

SUMMER FOURSOMES 48 PAIRS SIGNED UP FOR THIS FOURSOMES
COMPETITION DESPITE THE SOMEWHAT PURIST NATURE OF THIS FORM OF
GOLF. THERE WAS A MIXTURE OF HANDICAP LEVELS WHICH MADE FOR
SOME HARD-FOUGHT MATCHES AS A HALF COMBINED ALLOWANCE MADE
FOR A REASONABLY LEVEL PLAYING FIELD. SEVERAL LOW HANDCIAP
