Making authentic duaa from the Sunnah after iftar:%u201cThe Prophet pbuh used to say when he broke his fast, %u201cOh, Allah, for You I have fasted, and with Your provision I have broken my fast, and I have placed my trust in You, and in You I have believed; thirst has gone, the arteries are moist, and the reward is certain, if Allah wills.%u201dIs it permissible to supplicate with duaa other than the authentic duaafrom the Sunnah if one has not memorized the authentic duaa?Yes, it is permissible to make duaa even if it is not one recorded in the Sunnah. The Prophet (pbuh) said, %u201cChoose any supplication that you like and call upon Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, with it.%u201d [Bukhari]Providing iftar for others who are fasting:Even if just with a date or water; it is best to provide them with what fills them, if possible.The Prophet (pbuh) said, %u201cHe who provides a fasting person something with which to break his fast will earn the same reward as the one who was observing the fast, without diminishing in any way the reward of the latter.%u201d [Tirmidhi, al-Nasa%u2019i, ibn Majah, ibn Haban]Is the reward for feeding those who are fasting specific to the poor, or is it general and inclusive to family and friends?%u2018Fasting person%u2019 in the above hadith refers both to those who are poor and otherwise. The reward is granted for the feeding of any fasting person. However, it is better to favor a poor person when doing an act of charity due to their greater need.Sunnah acts of fasting continued:Performing ghusl from janabah, menstruation, or post-childbirth bleeding before fajr. So that one is in a state of purity from the beginning of the fast and to avoid what is considered to be disliked in the Shafa%u2019i school, which is avoiding the use of the bathroom, except for necessity, while fasting.Copyright %u00a9 2023 Islamic Association of Raleigh.
