ANNUAL REVIEW:
In the broadest sense, solicitation is considered the act of trying to persuade an individual, by
either request or plea, to secure something that is being offered to him/her, usually at the
individual’s own personal expense.
The University of Florida has an Acceptable Use of Information Technology Resources Policy.
The department interprets the policy to prohibit the use of department email to advertise
garage sales, Girl Scout cookie sales, football ticket purchases, non-department-sponsored
charitable events or monetary drives, sales of any kind, etc.
In addition, flyers may not be reproduced on department copiers/printers, nor placed on
department bulletin boards.
No non-employee or visitor may solicit department employees. Solicitation by employees may
only be done before and after the established work time, at lunch and on authorized breaks,
being mindful that the work-time definition applies to the customer’s schedule as well as the
solicitor’s schedule. If the employee objects, the solicitor must cease immediately.
Exceptions to the policy for charitable solicitation purposes must be requested in writing to the
department administrator at least two weeks in advance of the event.
The current exceptions to the policy are fundraising for: Lifebox Campaign, UF Community
Campaign, Children’s Miracle Network, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Multiple Sclerosis
Society, and American Heart Association.
Employees who violate this policy are subject to disciplinary action.
