Candi Singasari, located in the city of Singasari, not far from the city of
Malang, was discovered circa 1803 by Nicolaus Engelhard. Candi Singasari

temple was mentioned as situated in the middle of a newly cleared teak forest
in 1820. Early description of Candi Singasari can be found in a publication
entitled Beschrijving van Tjandi Singasari, en De Wolkentooneelen van
Panataran by J. L. A. Brandes with H. L. Leydie Melville and J. Knebel in
1909. Another important description of Candi Singasari is in Inleiding tot de
Hindoe Javaansche Kunst II by N.J. Krom in 1923. Jessy Blom even wrote his
dissertation on the temple in 1939.

Blom hypothesized that Candi Singasari stands on a vast complex
consists of eight temples and statues that are scattered there. Blom named the
above mentioned Candi Singasari as Temple A, and B - H for other temples.
Most interesting temple around Candi Singasari is Candi Wayang or Candi
Putri (Temple E) despite it is at the furthest point from Candi Singasari. It is
interesting because a 3UDMxDSDUDPLWƗ statue, which is know to locals as “Ken
Dedes statue”, was found in the temple.
