CAT'S PAW

he cat's paw is a common hook hitch for slings, and is useful on wet or slippery rope.
T The double parts of loaded rope lessen the chances of the rope breaking, but if one leg
should break, the other leg should be sufficient to lower the load to the ground.

                     Make a bight by
                   I doubling a length
                  of rope.

                                                ,,{~~~
                                                .. \ . ':•~
                                                ..
                                                                       •,
                                                ',I ., "
                                                t •
                                                •
                                                "

Bring the end of the bight
         2 down over the standing
parts to make a pair of
         matching loops.

            Give each loop a twist:
         3 the left-hand loop
         clockwise; the right-hand
         loop anti-clockwise.
