riginally, this hitch was used by sailors to pull on thin line or rope without it biting into
0 their hands. Instead of a marlinespike, any long tool, such as a spanner, can be used, as
demonstrated here. Once the knot is no longer needed, simply remove the tool and watch the
hitch disappear.
Lay the spanner on top of a
I length of rope that has been
fixed at one end.
Lift the rope upwards and
2 over the spanner.
Twist the spanner upwards,
3 in a clockwise directio n,
and insert its head behind the
standing part.
