his knot has long been used as a symbol of'interwoven' affection. In heraldry it was used
e T as the symbol of faithful love, and appears on the arms of the House of Savoy, giving rise

to one of its alternative names. Sailors, however, use this knot widely on the running rigging
- the ropes that are used to lift sails and yards. By tying a series of figure-of-eight knots, all in
the same direction, you can also make a decorative chain.
Make a small bight at the
