Report by Individual Nominee
CATEGORY: DOING WHAT IT TAKES
NOMINEE NOMINATOR DEPARTMENT
Melanie Barbieri Joan Bryan Omni-channel 360210
Describe the situation or event related to the individual's or team's performance.
Milena consistently demonstrates strong critical thinking and problem solving skills in her dynamic role that puts
her at the center of meeting the needs of GOJO?s most technically advanced customers. In April 2017
Milena?s boss and group director suffered a terrible personal tragedy and needed to be out of the office for
close to a month. Simultaneously retail inventory and shipping was moved to the Wooster warehouse,
resulting in unexpected cut orders and substantial shipping delays. This was a critical situation as top retail
customers, such as Target, Walmart and Walgreens, order weekly and work in a just-in-time fashion, so short
shipping and delays immediately resulted in out-of-stocks on store shelves and service levels so poor that
distribution was jeopardized.
From the moment the team was made aware of this critical situation Milena jumped into action. She mobilized
a cross-functional PBT, Customer Service and Supply Chain team. She led this group through smart actions to
mitigate the situation including:
? Checking orders by line as they came in to identify if stock was in place at the right location
? Working with broker and sales partners to identify how best to handle anticipated short shipments, resulting
in order extensions and reorders in some cases
? Mapping the process to check inventory, split out items not in stock, get inventory transferred to Wooster,
pick orders and ship (discovering nine separate steps and hand offs).
? Working out of the Wooster warehouse in-order-to better understand the emerging processes and labor
shortage issues and help to break down obstacles to shipping
? Executing an interim process for over a month, all the while guiding actions based on serving the customer
and collaborating effectively
Describe in detail the individual's or team's notable behaviors.
Milena has excellent critical thinking, collaborating and problem solving skills. She was able to be successful in
the unexpected situation described above, because her peers and cross-functional partners trusted and
respected her professional skills, work ethic and personal integrity.
What were the results of the individual’s or team’s behaviors?
Milena's actions as described below improved critical shipment delays and customer out-of-stocks during the
Wooster transition, resulting in resumption of weekly shipping and enabling broad understanding that new
processes and structure were essential to meeting the needs of our largest and most technically advanced
customers in B2B and B2C. The insights Milena helped gather informed the creation of the Omnichannel
Operations Team, which is now in place, and achieving much improved service performance.
