The Truth Will Set You Free

AT THE TRIAL OF JESUS CHRIST, Pontius Pilate asked a
nagging question which has been on the minds of men from
                           time immemorial.
Jesus had identified Himself for His earthly judge by
testifying, "For this cause came I into the world, that I
should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of
the truth heareth my voice" (Jn 18:37).
Pilate, having difficulty seeing this mild-mannered young
preacher as a danger to the state, asked the Lord "What
                            is truth?"
We have an advantage over Pilate in our times. We have
the Bible and many history books. We can compare
prophecy with history and see plainly what is true.
Our advantage comes in our having seen more prophecy
fulfilled than Pilate could have. For example, we have
seen the destruction of the second Temple, as prophesied,
and the regathering of Israel, as prophesied.
But it wouldn't have been Pilate's style to look into Old
Testament prophecy. A man who had advanced to an es-
teemed position in the complex Roman hierarchy would
certainly have been more concerned with the things of the
