The Stage Is Set

ONLY JESUS COULD intentionally fulfill prophecy. On
several occasions in His ministry He specified that an action
was to fulfill prophecy. We cannot cause prophecy to be
fulfilled, but we are certainly able to look into the Word
and draw conclusions about how it is being fulfilled around
us.
June 7, 1967—the day the lethally competent Israeli
army overran the ancient Temple site—may have been one
of those days which fulfills the prophetic Word. The "times
of the Gentiles" (Lk 21:24) may have started to come to
an end on that day when the Jews truly "came home" after
nearly two thousand years.
What an electric scene that recapture must have been!
The last Jewish troops to defend the Temple, in A.D. 70,
fought with swords and spears. Now their brethren came
with grenades and automatic rifles to reclaim God's chosen
site.
Some troops didn't know exactly where to look for the
Western Wall as the enemy fled. Many Jews had not been
allowed in the area for twenty years. The famous Israeli
tourist guides were pressed into service to lead the exhaust-
ed soldiers to the hallowed place.
