learning and teaching before, during and after the pandemic
Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted
the educational environment of many higher institutions worldwide,
and the University of Namibia was no exception.
Aim: The focus of this study was to explore students and lecturers’
experiences on online learning, teaching and the development of
authentic assessment and timely feedback, during, and after the
pandemic.
Methodology: The study used a qualitative method in which a case
study approach was adopted. The data generation process was
obtained through semi-structured interviews for the lecturers, focus
group interviews and narratives for students to get insight and depth
data. The sample of the study were third- and fourth-years students
who were purposely selected from Mathematics and sciences, Nursing
and Economics departments.
Results: The findings showed that there was a need to train faculty on
the use of online modalities and developing lesson plan with reduced
cognitive load and increased interactivities. Shifting to online
assessments was also a challenge to both lecturers and students as
assignments and examinations were carried out from home.
