Namibia. Teacher capacity building plays a significant role in
providing quality basic education.
Aim: This study analyses the teacher training programme of a
Namibian university to determine its quality, using a single case study
design. Four quality determining components were analysed: students
and teacher educator qualities; curriculum materials; teaching and
learning process; and teaching practice.
Methodology: Data was collected using, document analysis, focus
group interviews, questionnaires, and observations.
Results: The findings found that the teacher education curriculum was
overloaded and fragmented. Further, the subject matter content was
not aligned with the school curriculum. Also, students exit studies
with little subject matter knowledge.

12. Mosha, M., Plagiarism in written assessments by University of
Namibia’s first year media studies students
Background: Plagiarism is the use of another person’s distinctive
ideas or words without acknowledgment. However, academic writing
is a challenge to several students especially at undergraduate level.
Aim: This study aims at finding out why first year media studies
students, who are enrolled in an Introduction to Broadcasting course,
plagiarised in their written assessments.
Methodology: A quantitative research design was used for this study.
An online questionnaire was designed and administered, using the
Moodle Survey feature. 29 First year students participated in the
study. The results were analysed using IBM SPSS Statistics.
Results: The results indicate that students were not aware of what
plagiarism is, and that it is detected by online software. It was
