TOPIC 15

Introduction to qualitative data analysis and presentation

Purpose: The purpose of this presentation is to provide postgraduate students and early career
researchers with an introduction to qualitative data analysis and presentation. By the end of the

presentation, participants should have a clear understanding of the different types of qualitative data
analysis, how to choose the appropriate one for their research, and how to effectively present qualitative
               data.

Learning Outcomes: By the end of this presentation, participants should be able to:

                   1. Explain the importance of qualitative data analysis in research, and its relationship to research
                       objectives and hypotheses.
                   2. Describe the different types of qualitative data analysis, including thematic analysis, content

analysis, grounded theory, and discourse analysis.
                   3. Discuss the strengths and limitations of each type of qualitative data analysis, and how to

choose the appropriate one based on the research question and aims.
                   4. Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of checking for inter-coder reliability,
maintaining an audit trail, and ensuring trustworthiness in qualitative data analysis.

                   5. Explain the different methods for presenting qualitative data, including quotes, excerpts, and
                       narratives.
                   6. Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of clear and concise data presentation, and the

role of visual aids in effectively communicating research findings.
                   7. Discuss the ethical considerations in qualitative data analysis and presentation, including
                       protecting participant privacy and confidentiality.

                   8. Apply appropriate qualitative data analysis and presentation methods to their research, and
critically reflect on the implications of these methods for research design and interpretation.
