Preamble

The Doctoral Academy, established in 2022 by Professor Judith Hall, the Executive Dean of

the Faculty of Health Sciences and Veterinary Medicine, is a programme devoted to the
cultivation of research expertise and enhancement of skills among faculty members and

postgraduate students at both faculty and institutional levels. The Academy's core

responsibility is to promote knowledge in research and facilitate skills acquisition through a
               range of initiatives.

               Vision statement

Our vision is to create a dynamic and interdisciplinary community within the Faculty of Health
Sciences and Veterinary Medicine that fosters critical thinking, innovation, and diversity. We

aim to provide a comprehensive research training programme that equips postgraduate students
and early career researchers with the skills and knowledge necessary to conduct impactful

research in the health sciences and veterinary medicine. Our goal is to produce highly skilled

and knowledgeable researchers who will make a positive impact on society and advance the
field of health sciences and veterinary medicine.

The Doctoral Academy level 1 training programme

The Doctoral Academy level 1 training programme focuses on creating a dynamic and

interdisciplinary community that fosters intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and innovation
while promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion. Students will learn how to formulate research

questions, develop research proposals, and design rigorous research methodologies, gaining

expertise in qualitative and quantitative research methods, as well as mixed methods research.
The programme fosters a collaborative and supportive learning environment that promotes

academic excellence, encouraging students to participate in research projects and
interdisciplinary collaborations. The Faculty strives to promote a culture of research

excellence, ethical conduct, and social responsibility, and to develop leaders who will drive

positive change in their communities and beyond.
