sun with a smile on his face. Whistling a little tune, he
walked to school through the town.
There, at the edge of a sordid street lay the poor little boy
with his arms drawn up to his chest. He shivered. The
pathetic condition of the boy further pricked Samphel’s
heart.
Samphel walked closer to him. “Hi Ugyen, how are you?”
“I am good.” He smiled at Samphel as if God had
appeared before him in the form of a handsome boy. The
boy didn’t stammer this time as he knew Samphel was
generous and friendly, unlike the other boys.
“What’s your name?” asked Samphel.
“Ugyen.”
“Just Ugyen?”
“Ugyen Dorji.”
“Okay,” said Samphel. “Where do you stay?”
Ugyen remained quiet for a while as he didn’t have the
answer. “Anywhere.”
Samphel’s jaws dropped. And his heart ached. He looked
into the boy’s eyes. “What do you mean?”
