He peeked at the girl counting notes. “Excuse me, when
would the Bumthang bus arrive?”
She pointed at the bus visibly parked nearby. “There it
is.”
“I mean from Trashigang.”
“It’s coming from Dochhula,” she said. “You can wait at
the parking.”
Ugyen relayed the message to Ama.
Darkness spread soon. The bus terminal was a whole lot
crowded. Buses kept flowing in from different places
now and then, and the cabbies rushed at the arriving
buses for passengers. eople paced around the buses to
check for their relatives.
The bus arrived after a bit of frazzled waiting. Ugyen
peeped through the windows. Samphel was not there.
Disappointed, he made his way back to Ama. Somebody
patted Ugyen from behind.
He turned back and saw a tall boy with ponytail hair.
Ugyen couldn’t recognize him instantly. Jaw dropped,
Ugyen stared at the boy who looked like a hero in his
jeans and overcoat.
“Ugyen?” said the boy. “How’re you?”
“Oh, it’s Au,” said Ugyen. “You look different.”
