7 Parental Guides for Using this Book
1. Read the book by yourself to get a heads-up as to the
possible questions that may be raised by your child/
children.
2. Read the book with your child/ children allowing them
to raise questions and to share their knowledge of the
topic. You may also find the Discussion Questions
throughout the story and the Feedback Sessions on pages
31-36 to be useful in generating discussions. Remember
that this is a story that teaches.
3. If during the discussions with your child/ children
information is revealed that surprises you, and not in a
comfortable way, try to stay calm and allow them to fully
reveal whatever they are saying. Remember that there is
no shame in asking for support to help to protect your
child/children from sexual assault. Please know that you
are not alone.
In addition to the resources listed on pages 39-45
of this book, your local child sexual assault/crisis centre
is another good place for guidance.
