dialogues that it could inspire long after the initial reading
session is over.
The story is simple and age-appropriate for pre- pubertal
children as well as adolescents. It is my hope that some children
may find their voices through Sandy’s Experience and in so
doing may begin the healing process long before reaching
adulthood.
In addition, many parents/guardians may appreciate that
they are not alone and that there is no shame in asking for help
to speak with their children about sex, negotiation skills, how to
assert themselves; and indeed, to understand that secrets and
inappropriate touching are not permissible. In this world of
many potential counteracting forces to one’s parenting/
guidance, it is clear that we need to support each others’ efforts.
Some educators who may prefer not to become entangled
with such a touchy subject, but who are obligated to do so
may better understand the vital role that they could play in
